All the reasons have been discussed before, but I think that with outside gambling competition from N.Y and Pa,these are the biggest factors. Blame whatever you wish but that took a huge slice of the pie off the table.
Las Vegas learned long ago that you can no longer operate a casino strictly on the merits of gambling and hence the largest amount of income there is now derived from non gaming revenue.
Atlantic City needs to be more recognized as a destination resort and with things like the walk etc is heading in the right direction.
I don't know what the statistics are but I would bet most of the income is still derived from day trippers.
