Like chips, a collector wants unaltered chips. Even an autograph kills the collector value of the chip (but the autograph may be worth more than the value of the chip though). So most ANY markings on a note not placed there by the printer hurts the value.
Having said that... there ARE people who specifically collect first day issue notes. The notes typically sell for more than face value but only a small amount. In later years when an un-marked note appreciates the marked note does so at a very reduced pace. The unmarked note will ALWAYS sell for more.
I DO VER MUCH APPRECIATE the gesture of Archie offering it to me. I simply don't collect those. Thanks again Archie for the offer.
