I've discovered that the airports that have consolidated rental car facilities charge a lot more in fees and taxes than those that have individual locations and shuttles for the rental car companies. Las Vegas is bad, but Kansas City is the worst. I've paid more in fees and taxes than what the car cost to rent. MCI doesn't just add all the facility charges and transportation charges and airport associated taxes, they add taxes and fees for stuff that doesn't have anything to do with the airport or rental cars. Last time I rented a car there, one of the taxes was for some kind of civic center. Don't soak the locals, they might not vote for you next election; soak the visitors to your community, you don't have to worry about them come election time.
