There was a time when we didn't delete posts from obvious trolls. Left on the board, they were able to start huge arguments with and among the legitimate users of the board. It was out of control and was stopped. This isn't some arbitrary idea, it is in place for a reason.
A couple posts in this thread make it sound like posts are deleted on occasion for content, view, etc. That is incorrect. Unless the post is profane, libelous, or generally socially unacceptable, it stays. Controversial ideas are welcome here and always have been.
As for newbies being reluctant to join in, most boards won't even allow a person to post without giving a valid name and email address because they have to give one to sign up.
