Poker tourney question....and scenario
So....am in a tourney tonight and am in the BB with 2-5 hearts. Blinds are 100-200. Three limpers, and I just check, and,as I check I say: "I only have a 5-2...so I check." Comments are made about my "lie". The flop comes down K-J-4. The SB checks and I raise to 600. One player says "5-2 huh?" and everyone laughs. Both players fold and I turn over the 5-2 to show the bluff. Now...I play with these people a lot so showing the bluff was all in fun,HOWEVER....one of the players who was not even in the hand proceeds to lecture me about the fact that I told the truth about my hand and started getting quite upset, especially after I said that if I felt like doing it,that I was going to(I know that I am not supposed to but the guy was pi*ss*ing me off with his sanctimonious attitude. Everyone else at the table said that if it is a rule, then it is a silly one. He sadi that he would ask the tournamnet co ordinator to come over to say something and we all laughed at him(Trust me...he is an as at the best of times).
SO....I need to know from the armchair experts on the board why this is indeed a rule in a tourney? You can lie but not tell the truth? You can turn over your cards but not tell the truth about what you have? Anyone know why this rule is in effect and what the rationale is?
Tourneys are different than cash games in which almost anything goes. SO???
