As Archie mentioned:there were only 22 nominations received.
In defense of those who choose not to run: I think that maybe people do not want to volunteer because they feel that they either do not have the experience needed to take on one of the positions or even more importantly perhaps..... the backup of the voters that would be required to succeed. New members especially do not have the "fan base" to successfully run. Let's be serious here...if,say,I was willing to run for president, what chance would I have? I really do not know that many people in the club compared to...well...let's use you as an example:If you and I were going to run...I would be squashed like a bug. A:Because people know you and B:I am not experienced enough((and perhaps...to be realistic here....maybe for the fact that I have annoyed several people in this club. .
I also think that more people would run for positions if they had even a remote inkling of what duties that position would entail. Let's face it....many people have absolutely no idea as to what is required for some of the positions that they might be available. I mean...what does the president do actually? What does the VP do? What is expected of these two positions? I honestly do not know, other than the fact that they run the club. But what qualifications are actually needed so that a person has a chance to win? There is no use in lamenting a lack of entrants if those potential non entrants do not have the qualifications, or popular vote.
There are at least two people I know who have volunteered for positions and already the "experience' thing is coming into place. In fact, one person was questioned within seconds about their qualifications. So.....how can you get experience if you are dismissed almost before the fact. Perhaps volunteering at a much lesser level and working your way up might help to gain some insight? Who knows.
We should be happy that at least we have 22 nominations though, and I wish them all the best of luck.
