One of the investigators was on TV and talking about that. He said that at this time of year bird strikes are very common especially along the east coast. There is what is called the east coast flyway that migratory geese use and this time of year they are thick. He then showed a map and diagram of the flyway and you could see there is no way for planes on the east coast to avoid them during climb out or decent. Next he went on to say it is the jets who have the most problems (geese will take out a prop plane too) because they are so fast and (the key) with modern technology been able to reduce the noise levels so much the birds don't hear them coming where prop planes can be heard long before their approach.
