NCR, BankNote of the Day.....

Guernsey and the other Channel Islands represent the last remnants of the medieval Dukedom of Normandy, which held sway in both France and England. The islands were the only British soil occupied by German troops in World War II. Guernsey is a British crown dependency, but is not part of the UK. However, the UK Government is constitutionally responsible for its defense and international representation. ENJOY!!

Religions: Anglican, Roman Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Congregational, Methodist
Status: British Crown Dependency
Pound Sterling: Old English: "Pund" from Latin word: "Pondus" - Weight; Sterling is drived from old English word "Steorra" - Star, referring to a small star on early Norman pennies


Today's note is a 2000 Commemorative issue of 5 Pounds printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co Ltd. (TDLR). The book value of this note is 17.50 in UNC condition. The current exchange rate is (always at par with the British Pound):

Note: Fort Grey is located at Rocquaine, on Guernsey's rocky west coast, near the infamous Hanois reefs - site of many historic shipwrecks. The small Martello tower is situated on a rocky islet just offshore but connected by a stone causeway. It contains a museum about Guernsey shipwrecks, with many salvaged artifacts and related illustrations.
