Last night I drove home on my normal route through Malibu, and at about 7:30 on the Pacific Coast Highway near Pepperdine University (where I turn north on Malibu Canyon) it was 77 degrees. 8 miles north when I reached Mulholland Drive it was 46 degrees. When I got home, maybe 10 miles northwest of that intersection, it was 61 degrees.
The weather gets backwards here in LA when those Santa Ana winds blow. During the summer, Malibu can be 30 degrees cooler than what's taking place 11 miles north on the Ventura Freeway. This past week, the beach has been warmer than the valleys. Whacky stuff.
