Another use of a metal stamp on illegal equipment

Pictured here is a pair of dice in a Mason and Co. dice box.

The bottom of the box is rubber stamped:

S. S. MONTE CARLO
1375 W. 7th ST.
LONG BEACH

Using a metal stamp, one of the die has been stamped "MC" on the 1-spot side. (The other die, which matches in size, color and spot construction is NOT stamped in this fashion.

(Sorry if the scan is big, I was just trying to detail the stamping.)

Is it possible that the dice are not part of the box? Sure, but I have no reason to suspect so. But the point of this post is to show that metal stamping of letters and numbers (and maybe clovers) was an aspect of illegal gaming to denote ownerships.

Comments?

Thanks for looking!
