Although one point is that most tooling has already been in use for several years and is "paid for" by now. Of course future designs will need to be worked out. One other point that I have not seen made is the fact that the union wages only account for 10% of the total cost of the car. And don't forget that Chrysler not only paid back their bailout loan with interest but did it before it was due. The auto companies may be run by idiots but they are such cash cows when the economy is good that it doesn't matter.
