I see the chip, with a blank center and the jagged starred circle in the reproduced page of the 1880 Suydam catalog on page 402 in "Antique Gambling Chips" (1998), and on page 253 under poker chip "designs" category, 6 samples of the chips are shown. Two are blank in the center (like the similar "carlo" chips), 2 have initials in the center, and 2 have a maltese cross design in the center. It's engraved, not an embossed rim mold design. Just the style of a line of chips with space in the center for whatever design.
