Re: Sunset Club Las Vegas 1932-33

I don't think anyone knows the history of Sunset Club, Las Vegas. It's listed in The Gaming Table with a question mark, and just a mold identification. I would guess the listing is a result of a find of an unknown chip just marked Sunset Club and the authors speculated because of where the chip was found that it might be Las Vegas.

There were dozens of older clubs in nevada that have disappeared without a trace. Many in the early days played with coin and cash so chips will never be found.

You should also know that there are quite a few chips for which the origin is still in dispute. The River Queen you asked about earlier is one, as is the Thunderbird chip that is being sold by some as Las Vegas. Vocal collectors on this bulletin board believe it has been proven that it is not Las Vegas. I believe you will see in the update to the Official Guide coming out this month that this author, at least, doesn't think the question is settled.

There are also lots of California club chips that were probably also used in Nevada; what do you call them?

Good luck with your Las Vegas collection, Mitchell. You might want to look at Greg's collection of Nevada Ones at:

for some ideals.
