It was printed to commemorate the G-8 Economic Summit in Okinawa in 2000. That is the Shureimon Gate in Naha, Okinawa at the right.
Something unique about Japanese money is that they are the only ones to incorporate the use of Mulberry bark into the paper used for currency. This has been done for as long as I know of and continues today.
