The American auto industry has been in a constant downhill spiral since the late 60's Early 70's
Planned obsolecence vs. the Japanese entering the US market lost several generations to foreign car buyers.
Add to that union demands for lifetime jobs and the government not protecting us against foreign imports nailed the lid shut.
I remember when Honda first introduced their vehicles here.
I lived in NYC at the time and I remember an Oldsmobile dealer on Fordham Road in the Bronx.
They ran an add that said. Buy a full sized Oldsmobile 98 and the would throw in a Honda for free.
My my how times have changed. Though the Oldsmobile badge no longer exists, if it had, the tables might be turned the other way.
The Japanese bombed pearlharbor in 1941 with bombs, now its with Toyotas, Nissans and Hondas.

Give the car companies their $25 billion, why not everybody else is getting a piece of the pie at taxpayers expense anyway.
So what will happen when those monies are gone. Giving them these monies is not the cure.
It might possibly save the industry but will do nothing to save American jobs
