Tim, these are "River City" chips from 2 New Orleans, LA casinos that are now closed. After closing all the chips were cancelled with the sunburst pattern hot-stamp and then sold from the Paulson-Son retail stores. However, before closing, some of the chips left and did not get cancelled. The primary question to you is, are your chips cancelled or not?
It does make a difference in value. Also, please be aware that over the years, many previous owners have removed the hot-stamp, golden foil sunburt cancellation, but the pattern remains embossed into the chips. Some more than others, but usually the impression can be detected by the naked-eye.
Therefore, the secondary question is, have the hot-stamps been removed from your chips?
Lastly, which River City chips do you have?
River City Crescent City Queen (the chips in the left two columns) or River City Grand Palais (the chips in the right two columns) and note the primary and secondary (back-up sets for the higher denominations)?
