"Mr. Hodges,
My name is Terry Yeager. I worked for Harrah's starting in 1977 as a dealer, I retired in 2005 as a table games shift manager. I thought you might be interested in the real story behind the yellow $2.50 chip. It is not an error chip. Beginning in the early seventies, Harrah's Reno and Lake Tahoe did not have $1.00 chips. Instead they used Eisenhower dollars. They were quite noisy especially on a craps table. The U.S. mint stopped making them in 1978. Up to that point the yellow chip was $2.50. One day I came to work and it was noticeably quieter on the casino floor. They had taken all of the Eisenhower dollars off the games as well as all of the yellow $2.50 chips. They then started using the green $2.50 chip and introduced the yellow $1.00 chip. I hope this information will be of use to you. Good luck with your Ebay sales.
Terry"
As a result of this information, I cancelled my Ebay auction - Harrahs Brass Core Chips including $2.50 Error 1980's, Auction #140283467478.
I did not feel it was appropriate to continue the auction with what was, most probably, incorrect information.
In a subsequent email, Mr. Yeager shared that after seven years at Harrahs, Lake Tahoe, he moved to Atlantic City until he retired. He now lives again in Lake Tahoe and was kind enough to supply me with a telephone number. I will be contacting him during this next week to share information about CC & GTCC as he states he has quite a collection of chips from both places!
Anyone have any different information on the $2.50?
Thanks,
Rich Hodges
PLEASE NOTE I HAVE OTHER AUCTIONS ON EBAY STILL RUNNING!!! THANKS
