As an example, 25 years ago when I was living in Detroit there had been many, many "black artists" exhibitions at a museum downtown. At one point a white artist attempted to set up an exhibition for "white artists." I don't think I need to tell you what the reaction was... even though white people are clearly a very small minority in that city.
It's a similar story with reverse discrimination. You see minority students receiving preferential treatment in gaining admission to many private universities, invariably at the expense of more qualified white students. Fair? Again, it depends on your standards and what you feel should be achieved (e.g: racial diversity.)
