Also, IN MY OPINION I think that the insurance companies, lawyers, the medical field, and government have all contributed to ultra high health care costs.
The insurance companies have to cover the medical costs, pay their cost of doing business plus make a profit. All this adds to the total expenses the policy holders have to bear. The insurance company is bound to fiduciary laws and must protect investors from unreasonable risks. Thus the insurance company often denies valid claims or reduces allowed charges, making you pay the difference.
The lawyers see the huge pot of money the insurance company is sitting on and wants to tap into it. While bad doctors should be out of business not every error is worthy of vulgar settlement but the more the settlement the bigger the piece for the lawyer. I have been waiting to see these personal injury lawyers advertisements switch to "Did you order mayonnaise and get mustard? Well, we can sue and make you millions!" All these bloodsuckers do is add to the total costs. Maybe we need tort reform or caps of some sort.
The medical field orders duplicate and triplicate tests and diagnoses to protect themselves from the wolves (Lawyers) that wait at the door if a T is not crossed or an I not dotted. This along with mal-practice insurance (there's insurance again) running up the total costs.
Government gets involved to protect against something in particular and by the time it is law it is so contorted and twisted it involves so much that it is ridiculers and becomes fodder for late night comedians and is another hurdle for doctors in their performance and adds cost of more paper handlers on staff.
Throw into the mix drug companies. Why do drugs (made in the USA) costs less in Canada and Mexico…. Answer: Product liability. Overdose on Exlax and a lawyer is waiting out there to get you a million dollars so the insurance company is in full CYA mode adding to the costs.
