One of my former co-workers was the Exalted Ruler in a Elks Lodge here on the Jersey Shore. He invited me as a guest on several occassions in an attempt to persuade me to join. Several of the Elks members in this lodge were also local police officers in the town where the Lodge was located. The Lodge would always receive annonymous tips of a pending raid when their 'casino nights' was being held. After the cops duitfully showed up and found no gambling activities on the premises and ... within the hour after their departure and mandatory reports were filed ... the games were in full swing.
