Stardust Contest
In Response To: Brian Howard! ()

Todd-

Glad to hear you enjoyed the "booty" from my Stardust Room # contest.

It still suprises me to think its been two years since the Stardust closed, and the memories of that trip still stay fresh in my mind. It was strange that there really werent that many people at the hotel the final two days... I guess the locals and such had already gone over to say goodbye. The gift shop was basically an empty room by the time I checked in, and the Keno room had already been closed, but still had the keno slips at a few tables.

I played the poker room until about an hour before it closed Halloween night, and posted the video I took of the very last live hand ever played there on my You Tube list.

It was kind of forboding to walk around and see an empty sportsbook and the Wayne Newton theater was already in stages of dissasembly.

This was my first actual stay at the Stardust, but wasnt going to see it get closed without being there for a longer stay. I first went there in 1991 while I was en route to Phoenix for school, and remember that was the only casino I went to while staying at the old Algiers, and the El Rancho was already closed and fenced off.

It is interesting that when I went there in Nov. '91, it was only one month after the main West tower had opened, and now they were getting ready to destroy it.

Any way, thanks again to all those who took part in my contest, and hope you all got a chance to see my videos on YouTube. I know Im not alone in missing the Stardust... there are now only four casinos left in Las Vegas that I view as vintage strip resorts- Sahara, Riviera, Flamingo and Tropicana..... All opened before 1960, and with current situations and stock reports, I dont give the Riviera much time left.
