A plating shop I know is down to one polisher and one plater. The owner is in his late 60s and I asked if he was starting to take it easy. The answer "there is no work coming in.
I saw a machinist yesterday. He told me he is working on old jobs and if nothing new comes in, in the next 3 weeks he will have no work.
This morning getting coffee I ran into an old friend who told me he was just laid off and his ex-wife was as well.
I have a NY client who deals with very high end clientele. He just laid off half his office after losing a few big projects.
I have several clients who import containers of antiques from France. They are not buying now unless the deal is good as there current inventory is not moving.
Personally I am always busy and thrive in these times, but I'm starting to worry.
