Every ill the casino industry has faced there as of late has been blamed on the ban and partial bans that were implimented there.
What I question is what makes the casino industry special that it shouldn't conform to what other major industries have had to endure for years.
I was a former smoker. I smoked for 15 years and have been smoke free now for over 35. I still miss it. I respect the rights of anyone that wishes to smoke but what I want to know is where are my rights to not have someone sit next to me puffing on a cigarette and making me the victim of their second hand smoke.
The casino industry in A/C is suffering as a result of the economy just like the rest of the country and to blame it on a smoking ban is totally ludicrous.
You can not smoke on public transportation yet people still go to work. You can not smoke in your office yet you still stay employed. You can not smoke in a restaurant yet people still eat.
Why don't all the cry babies (especially in A/C) address the situation for what it is, economy, fuel prices, competition and severe cutbacks in casino comps.
As I mentioned and another poster (John Chopek) also did, this past weekend the casinos we visited in A/C city were as busy as we have ever seen them and that was with a FULL smoking ban in effect.
The upcoming months will be difficult enough for the casinos in Atlantic City, vacations are over and colder weather looms ahead, Holidays are coming and the economy most likely will not rebound for sometime.
I'm sure however now that the smoking ban has been tabled for another year they will once again post record profits (not)
It's time for there casino executives to wake up and not stand there pointing fingers and making excuses.
