In the meantime, Notre Dame had its way with the hapless Huskies, pulling to a 24-0 lead midway through the third quarter. Washington had managed three first downs, 48 yards of offense, had not reached midfield, and continues to play with its second-string, freshman quarterback, and third-string tailback ... and is just plain terrible. Still, on fourth-and-13, Charlie Weiss felt it necessary to bury Willingham and the Huskies beneath a fake punt, which worked brilliantly for 35 yards. Wow, what a coach!
That was a decision folks used to think was beneath Notre Dame.
