This variation has been recently discussed on the board. A certain type of bud jones mold with dollar signs on the mold seems to have two varieties. Here they are for the Copa Cabana Casino in the Hyatt Regency in Aruba:

The wide dollar sign is older. Here is a close up of the wide dollar sign:

I would guess, based on my collecting only, that they were changed before 2002 to the following:

As you can clearly see, the shape of the dollar sign is completely different. By the way, these scans are so detailed, that I can barely see the line on the chip with the wide dollar sign, even when I know to look for it, and I can't see the line on the other.
