in Paris that was a cafe owned by "Frenchy", Ricks friend....we never learned why he coundnt return to Paris...nor his past occupations...though he ran guns to Ethiopia..and fought in Spain.....Ricks cafe americian was the club he owned in casablanca....my fav movie of all time
