Shea?!?!?!
In Response To: Re: Sad Day was in 1973 ()

I am a Mets fan, and I HATE the place Shea), probably one of the most generic, boring ballfields I have ever set foot in.

But that didn't stop me from sneaking in and running the bases on November 9, 1986 in the wee hours of the morning, a few weeks after the Mets won their last Series, and about 11 hours before I got married. My best friend asked me if there was anything I needed to get out of my system before I took the plunge.

I lived about 2 miles from Shea, but everyone in my family was a Yankee fan. I was once. Thurman Munson was my hero. I gave up when George started his shenanigans. I remember the old park, it definitely had a better baseball vibe than the new park, but the new park was pretty cool too. I have always considered the the same field, though, as the ground never changed. It was kinda like a graceful old movie star getting plastic surgery. She probably should have just left well enough alone, but once you got used to the result, it was not that bad.

It is a sad day. As much as dislike the Yankees, that place has so much history.
