I agree that 3% of sales were non-PayPal, if my experience is typical. I have seen a rebound in the use of checks and money orders in the past few months, though.

But when I leave eBay later this year, I will be taking all 100% of my business, not just those paid by check. Multiplied by the other disgruntled sellers, the effect on PayPal could be pronounced. From me, eBay will not get the listing fee, the final value fee, or as much of the credit card processing fees as they did last year (I still will accept PP on my own website since it is good for buyers).

I have shifted my sales to posting on user forums like this, my own website, and Amazon for books and CDs. A larger percentage of my eBay listings go unsold than before, so I often pay double listing fees before the items actually sell. I'll never know whether the downturn is due to the general economy or the karma surrounding eBay, but I'm minimizing my exposure to fees that do not lead to actual revenue.
