Re: An eBay/PayPal question for those in the know.

You have to check the boxes that show what kind of payment you accept when you post an auction. You're not allowed to give any information in the description encouraging payment by cash, check or money order. If you accept PayPal as payment, you have to take any kind of PayPal account including credit cards. This basically means you can't use a Peronal PayPal account to sell things after the first of October.

You are free to choose another service to process the credit card charges you accept. PayPal has pretty good rates, though. Costco members can also use Costco to process payments. You have to use the more expensive account for on-line sales though.

There was a seminar about the new payment rules a few days ago, and the transcript is available to read on eBay. When you look at the statistics they quote, it's obvious they are trying to eliminate peronal and "hobby" type auctions and convert eBay to an on-line store for full-time retailers. Too bad for many of us who like eBay to buy/sell hobby items, but eBay is "maximizing shareholder return" [g].
