Dirty Chips... John, Rich, & Gene
I think cigarette burns are a part of the "dirt" process that adds to the chip and it also shows just how much cigarette/cigar smoking was a part of our society. I collect good to average condition used Las Vegas $5 house chips because I feel this shows that the chip has character, a past, a life, the chip saw action, and that the chips were indeed used. For me, they are a nostalgic or vintage link or viewing window, if you will, with the Las Vegas past. One may even say, that a used "dirty" chip has a little mystery about it. How many people used/touched it and who were they? Was it somebody famous? How long was it actually used at the tables? Did someone use the chip as a lucky charm and kept it in their pocket/purse for awhile? I really don't care for the uncirculated/mint condition chips for the obvious reason... they were simply taken and put away. Lastly, I don't care for chips that have been cancelled in anyway. These are just my opinions... Besides, we are all just a little different and we all collect differently.
