I just got word from a race track owner in Belle Rose LA, a little north of Houma. Doors and windows were blown out of every building (even a freezer door inside a concessions building), trees, power poles and above ground utility lines down all over the place. His track is pretty new, He's lived in the Bayou all his life, and he built the track to sustain minimal damage during violent weather. It'll still take him at least a month to get the track functional again. Thank God no one was hurt there.
Hurricanes aren't a typical weather disaster. They aren't just wind. They aren't just rain. They aren't just a tornado (they often spawn many). They aren't just an ocean surge (not unlike a tsunami). They can be and often are all of the above.
