The Government had to do all this. I remember when Katrina hit and Bush flew to San Diego that same day and I was wondering if he was nuts or what. I grew up in South Dakota with those kinds of winds and rain you wrote about and it was nothing to us. We never had school canceld cuz of wind or rain or snow but we never had anything like a hurricane hit us. And yes, many, many houses in the south aren't built hurricane proof, much less tropical storm proof. In Florida we have many buildings grand fathered in, where they don't have to be brought up to code until they sell them. Plus, the south has thousands and thousands of mobile homes. Anyway, like I said, this was the Government and Fema and local organizations doing lessons learned and I think it's great. What the problem is and always will be is, they built the city in a hole. And I still don't know why they don't put 20 foot walls around most of the city...but I'm not an engineer. It's to bad it took Katrina to wake us all up but it's nice seeing go well now.
