Re: "State of Emergency" says it all.
What bothers me most is that these are solo actions being taken by the State of Louisiana. Given that if this storm maintains strength or even increases in intensity, it could make another hard left turn and blast Cancun, or it could take a right turn and slam into Tampa Bay. Every area between those two points should be reacting in the same manner if this really isn't over-reaction that is a politically motivated attempt to counter almost zero actions taken during Katrina. Moving closer to New Orleans... Why aren't Houston or Biloxi being declared to be in the same State of Emergency? I'd suggest that the Governors of the states that are home to those cities don't want to over-react, cause what might be unnecessary panic, and cause local businesses financial losses over the course of a National holiday weekend.
I don't want to see anyone hurt by mother nature. At the same time, I don't want to see anyone hurt by mother nature speculation.
