I agree wholeheartedly. When my grandparents arrived here, they were told to speak English and they did. No one gave or offered them any handouts. Like most of the immigrants of that time, they wouldn't have accepted any. They were glad to be here.
While I agree that the opening and closing ceremonies were spectacular, I have to agree with you on:
one should have looked at what China IS capable of and see the handwriting on the wall and realize what might lie ahead.
