Looking East on Fremont Street, around 1925. The Hotel Nevada is now the Golden Gate, Just past it was the Northern Club, a 'speakeasy' that was owned by Mayme Stocker. The Northern received the first gaming license issued in Las Vegas, when gambling was legalized in 1931.
In 1935, as a tourist attraction and a way to entertain the locals, Las Vegas introduced Helldorado Days. Men grew their beards, which were judged as part of the festivities. The locals wore frontier dress, there were parades and a rodeo. Look at the crowds on Fremont Street, enjoying the parade! The 20 mule team entry was sponsored by the El Cortez Hotel.
The Thunderbird sponsored a Showboat float
