Resorts International was Atlantic City's first casino which opened in May 1978. In what is considered the first issue of "Casino Chip and Token News" (originally Atlantic City Chip & Token Newsletter Volume 1, Number 1 authored by Archie Black) the author wrote of knowing "....of less than 6 specimens in collections of the most serious collectors I've corresponded with.....and I've never seen one offered for sale." That was back in early 1988. Since that time I started collecting casino chips and eventually obtained this most sought-after chip approximately 13 years ago. Over the years after I obtained my chip reports of a few others in collections have surfaced. Where am I going with this? I am trying to give as much information on the rarity of this chip that I can. I have not kept a record of sales/transactions of this chip, however, I think, based on the lack of activity on this this chip, it is rare. I am offering this chip in very good to excellent condition. Cross-hatching is still visible on both sides of the chip and it stands on end with no visible nicks.
The rarity of this chip was caused by the lack of public access into the Baccarat Pit in the early days of A.C. gambling. None-players and chip collectors were not welcomed or allowed into the Bacc Pit in those days. Occasionally a player would leave the Bacc Pit and sit down to play at a table outside the Bacc Pit and bet the chip obtained from the Bacc Table. Because of the Casino Control Commission requirements put on the casino having to credit the chip off of a non-baccarat table after it was played, Resorts stopped using that chip and destroyed all they had in the cage two years after Resorts opened.
I am offering this chip for the best offer over $1500.00. Please email me with your offers. Thank you for looking, Chuck Tomarchio
