While not personally knowing all of the facts (as an "old guard" club member) ..., it is my understanding that the dealer had stored the money in a paper bag on the floor underneath the FRONT table where it could easily be dragged out using a foot by any dishonest person(s) sitting at the table ... whether it be a "crook or two with a day pass" or a club member thief.
While I too sympathize with the dealer's monetary loss ... this theft could have easily been prevented (in my opinion) by excersizing some better security precautions employed by the individual dealer(s). Guards checking bags and items for receipts is not a practical solution to a preventable situation.
