After several months, e-mails, phone calls, etc., we were finally able to secure permission to enter the site. The search team did manage to collect a good amount of the old artifacts, all of which will go to the museum per the agreement between the Museum and the MGM/Mirage.
The demolition site of the Nevada Landing has been posted as NO TRESPASSING and is closed to any unauthorized entry and is patrolled on a regular basis. Per the MGM/Mirage representatives there will be no more searches allowed. Our team was able to gain permission only because of the connection to the Museum and the agreement that ALL items recovered will be Museum property.
Watch for an article in the next issue of the club magazine relating to the initial find and history of Pop's Oasis. In the Winter issue you can read Part 2 relating to our search efforts and some pictures of what we recovered.
I would like to thank the MGM/Mirage and the representatives with whom I dealt for their efforts and cooperation in allowing this last search. The Museum will benefit as will future visitors who will be able to see the displays and enjoy the history of an old casino operation (Pop's) and what happens to some of the chips and tokens.
