I don't agree. I would not have offered Rick insurance since I already guarantee delivery or refund without having to offer insurance.
2) Rick turned down Josh's offer of insurance. I think this small group of people would agree that wasn't the right thing to do in order to be protected against loss/damage.
This would not happen with me since there was no need for him to make that decision
3) Even though Rick decided to turn down the insurance offer, Josh proposed to work with Rick to repurchase his order at a reasonable discounted cost.
I too would propose to work with Rick: either a repacement or 100% refund of the purchase price, including shipping charges. That is the only decision Rick would have to make.
I'm going out on a limb and say that Rick probably would not have had a complaint if he had dealt with me.
BTW, Archie showe a copy of his receipt from the PO. Most of mine include delivery con. My deal is: if I verify the package is delivered, I will not replace or refund (unless it arrives damaged). If the PO does not show it was delivered, then I'll replace or refund. Pretty simple. By adding Del conf I almost never buy ins (unless the buyer specifically asks for ins, which I try to discourage). I've probably saved over $1000 in insur. Pack it right. Staple and AND tape ends. If the package is real expensive I use a priority box and paper tape all edges. Always use brown paper tape. The PO insists on paper tape for registered mail. My theory is that a package with paper tape is less likely to be tampered with since slicing open a paper taped package is easily detected. This is not the case with clear tape.
Also, unless the package is expensive (over $500) I send first class. By sending first class rather than prioity, it covers the cost of del conf and usually adds no more than a day. Of course if the buyer askes for priority, he gets it.
