. A few years ago we bought a group of slides on ebay, they all seem to be the same parade, on Fremont Street. The Bird Cage was only open for about a year, in 1958-1959, before it was forced to close when two keno players hit $25,000 jackpots very close together! When the Bird Cage closed, the Mint expanded to fill the area.
I noticed that several of the floats are sponsored by casinos. It seems like back then the casinos recognized that tourists and gambling were the life-blood of the town, and they were willing to give something back in appreciation. We went to the 2005 Helldorado parade, and noticed very little casino sponsorship/participation
. I'd love to think that our slides might be a Helldorado Parade!
