Since you asked for opinions, here's mine...

1. I don't understand why you even bid on the auction. I haven't seen the actual text from your auction but it sounds like the auction stated the seller only ships to United States. (I reviewed some of his other auctions and they all say same thing). In my opinion you had no business bidding on the item in the first place.

2. Did you offer to pay the extra costs the seller would incur to ship it to Canada? I'm guessing no. (I based that guess on the fact that you declined to pay extra for insurance).

3. I agree that the seller in a typical business transaction has the responsibility to get the item to the buyer. But here I feel there is somewhat of an exception. In order for a typical seller to cover the cost of doing business, they should build into the cost of their products enough markup to cover the cost to doing that business (which includes replacing items when lost or broken). For eBay transactions this is not always the case. In fact many times buyers are given the chance of saving a few dollars and are given the opportunity to decline paying for insurance.

When I've been given the opportunity to decline insurance and have chosen to do that, I know in my heart of hearts that I am taking responsibility for the item if it gets lost because I was wanting to save a couple dollars.

4. I feel you have misleading on a couple of different items:

a. Feedback - you took a lot of time to spell out the quantity of the negative feedbacks but you didn't indicate how many his over total was. He has 4,788 feedbacks from unique buyers and 5,679 total feedbacks since 1999. Over the last 12 months, he has had 451 feedbacks and only 1 negative for 99.7%. I think if you wanted to be fair, you should have indicated as much.

b. You said, "I sent payment the next day". This too is misleading. Sounds like you paid him quickly. Based on how you stated this, many people will assume you sent an electronic payment. But from what I gather, it sounds like you sent a check or money order via snail mail. That takes time to get from Canada to Las Vegas. I'm looking at one of his current auctions and he states that "Checks held for one week". So after the check arrives, he still is going to hold it for a week before shipping the item out. You had to expect this type of transaction is not going to be quick. In my opinion you made it sound like he got paid quickly when in fact by the time the check clears the bank, it probably took a couple weeks for him to get funds in the bank.

5. You started this whole thing by complaining about "Courtesy and professionalism" yet when he publicly responds to your thread you respond with a message that has the title of: "What a load of crap".
