Re: STRANGE CARDS!
In Response To: STRANGE CARDS! ()

This is a deck of German playing cards (specifically a pattern from Bavaria in the south). There is a total of 36 cards: 6-10, Unter (lower knave), Oder (higher knave), Konig (King), and Daus (listed as Ace but really a Deuce; has the same function). There are no Jokers. The suits are the German suits of Hearts, Bells, Leaves and Acorns.

More information about German playing cards can be found at http://a_pollett.tripod.com/cards7.htm. That's a great site that tells you everything you could want to know about cards, including tarot and tarock decks. Check out the Italian, Spanish or Swiss suits for more variations.

According to the Germany page at the great card game site http://www.pagat.com/national/germany.html a 36 card deck in Germany is used for playing Bavarian Tarock. The sixes can be set aside for the 32 card games of Schafkopf (Sheepshead), Skat, or Watten.
