Post Office may take name of 9/11 flight attendant

CeeCee Ross Lyles, who was on Flight 93, had been a Fort Pierce, FL, police officer for 6 years.

Nearly seven years after her death during the Sept 11 terrorist attacks, CeeCee Ross Lyles may be immortalized in another way; through a post office in Fort Pierce.

Sen. Mel Martinez filed a bill this week that would officially name the post office in Fort Pierce after Lyles, a flight attendant on United Flight 93, which crashed in a PA field on 9/11/01. Passengers on the flight fought back against the hijackers after learning that other jetliners had been flown into the Pentagon and World Trade Center.

Lyles was born and raised in Fort Pierce, where she later became a police officer for six years.

Lyles left Fort Pierce with her family in 2000 for Fort Myers, FL, to take a job as a flight attendant.

On Sept 11, shortly before the plane crashed, Lyles called her husband, Loren, and told him she loved him and their children.

In 2003, the city erected a statue of Lyles in the Liberty Gardens at Veterans Memorial Park.

The post office at 1717 Orange Ave. would officially be known as the CeeCee Ross Lyles Post Office Building......
