Last year we ordered 500 Willie Nelson chips, that seems to be the number that our marketing department likes to order for selected concerts. The chips came in just fine, and as always we send off 10 to the marketing department (and I still have no idea what they do with them once they get them). So we have 490 chips going into circulation.
The Willie Nelson concert was canceled. I asked to see what they wanted to do with the chips (I suggested we destroy the chips). I was given permission to destroy the chips that we had in the vault. However I was told that I could purchase some if I wanted... I did not purchase any of the chips, feeling that it would cause a lot of backlash (with chip collectors and my job) if I even tried to sell just one.
I personally destroyed the 490 chips that we had in the vault; with an employee and surveillance watching. By the way it is very easy to do... 2 pliers; one in each hand, the GPI Paul Son clay chips break rather easily that way (Don't try this with your favorite chips ). To this day I don't have that chip in my collection. So if you somehow have one of the 10 $5 Harrah's Council Bluffs Willie Nelson 2007 chips, then my friend you have some excellent connections : )
My moral to the story, the chips from Green Valley Ranch should have been destroyed. If they were used for gaming purposes or not. I feel that their management was very shortsighted on this issue, especially with a chip that could come back and haunt them for free drinks and possibly upset guests for years to come.
