Sterling Casino Lines has suspended operations and its gambling ship, Ambassador II, will leave Cruise Terminal 2 before its lease expires at midnight July 16, officials said.
The casino ship, built in 1971, made its last sailing on Sunday. Employees arrived at work Monday to find that operations would be permanently shut down.
“We’ve been in negotiations with Sterling,” said Stan Payne, chief executive officer of Canaveral Port Authority. “We’ve been trying.”
Sterling President John Brevick was unavailable for comment. Sterling first came to Port Canaveral in 1996 and its first sailing was on Sept. 11, 1998.
