While today the media is saying that critics of our nation are showing patriotism, too (front page of the Detroit News), I say this:

Today we celebrate our nation's birthday. On your friend's birthday, you would celebrate with him and not try to "improve" him with constructive criticism about his weight, his haircut, or his choice of women. If you did so, it would sound like you were really trying to pick a fight, and not celebrating your friend's special day.

Don't let the media pick a fight today. They can try and persuade me some other day that draft dodgers and critics of the military are patriots, too. For today, I want to give unqualified love to my country.
