The U.S. House defeated a bill that would have allowed tribes to build casinos on "swapped" land close to Detroit (Romulus, about 20 miles, and Port Huron, about 45 miles). Although owners of two of Detroit's casinos were supporting the measure, the third casino and Detroit politicians concerned about diluting gaming revenues were strongly opposed.
