You're right the the middle letter normally stands fot the initial of the surname. I read the chip that the McL was the first 3 letters of the surname. "B.L. Mc." seems a bit odd. Either it would show one letter toward the surname ("M") or 3 letters (McL"). "Mc" just doesn't look right.
Then again, you are probably right. Now if I can find a B.L. McCrory that was living in 1923, I'll go with your attribution.
BTW, do you have the BMcL chip in red, white & blue?
