Harrahs 7-Star Chips?

Does anyone know if these purple chips were ever actually used, and where?

Came from a Las Vegas seller on eBay who says they were used for a short time. Appear to be oversize Paul-son plain mold chips, similar to the promo chips made for MGM Grand and others. He says they were used to inform the pit of the table position of higher-level players at a BJ game. Most have severe edge dings, as if they were struck on the metal chip tray to attract the pit-boss' attention. The reverse of each is marked DIAMOND with diamond symbol, so side turned up could indicate player's card level.

The black/gold table 5 marker is thin plastic (uniface) made in China, and was supposedly used for the same purpose till the purple chips were put in use.
