Spots And Splotches

1940 chip manufactured by Jack Todd. Doug saito has one going in his Auction XV June 16 in Las Vegas.

Very interesting commentary by Doug about these chips. His contention is that these were before edge inserts were widely used and the speckles were an attempt to differentiate these chips from chips that may walk in the door. I did not know that! I created this scan a couple of years ago when we had a discussion about the edge markings seen on these '40's Nevada Club pieces. One of the KMW gurus informed us that they were indeed painted onto the chips. Hmmm, forgot to ask, painted by whom? Jack Todd or Lincoln Fitzgerald dealers in the break room? LF had his own way of doing things so employee busywork is possible IMO.

Pretty good day when you learn something new in the greatest hobby on Earth. vbg
